Coffee's informal first mile is a trust problem, and it can be fixed

By PasarMIKRO

Coffee branches heavy with red, yellow and green cherries, with more coffee plants and bare soil behind

Between the farm and the cup, coffee passes through layers of informal trade with no visibility, verification or recourse. PasarMIKRO builds the verified, digital trade infrastructure that the first mile is missing.

The coffee in your cup has probably passed through 5 middlemen before it reached you, and the farmer who grew it may have seen less than 3% of what you paid.

A trust problem, not a supply problem

This is not really a supply chain problem. It is a trust problem.

There is no visibility, no verification and no recourse. There are only layers of informal transactions that wear away value at every step of the way.

The global agri industry keeps operating as if this were inevitable. It is not.

The supply and the demand are already there

Indonesia alone has millions of smallholder farmers producing some of the world’s most sought-after commodities: rice, coffee, corn, tuna and natural fibre.

The supply is there. So is the demand. What has been missing is the infrastructure to connect them fairly and transparently.

What we are building

At PasarMIKRO we are building a fully verified, digital trade ecosystem. Four things are built in from the ground up:

The platform has supported USD 88M+ in trade, with 8,000+ businesses on the platform and 30,000+ cashless digital transactions.

Tools, trust and work on the ground

The informal first mile does not have to stay broken. It needs the right tools, a layer of trust, and people willing to do the hard work on the ground. That is the work we do.

If you buy coffee or other commodities from Indonesia and want a first mile you can verify, write to us at hello@pasarmikro.id.
